I purchased this unit for a trip to Ireland. I used it for my curing iron and on the second use it died and can not be brought back to life. It is cheap and is a waste of your money. It is also heavy, I packed it into my carry on during the trip to Ireland and it was added weight I could have left at home.

I am very sorry I decided to buy this item.

  • I bought this for my 2 month trip to Europe (which i’m only a week into and don’t have a voltage converter to use since this one broke) and the first day I got here I used it for my laptop and a few other things like my phone charger, camera charger, etc. but then when I went to do my hair I plugged my blow dryer into it and my blow dryer would hardly even blow hair and then it just stopped so I figured my blow dryer just blew its fuse but then I found out that my converter also stopped working after that. So this product works fine for most things I think just NOT a blow dryer! Don’t use it with one or else your money will go right down the drain like mine did. Also, it is actually pretty heavy. . it weighed by bag down quite a bit so remember that for traveling.

  • Based upon mostly good reviewer feedback, I purchased this item for a trip to France and paid extra to make sure I had it in time. As others noted, it’s very heavy, adding to the weight I had to haul around considerably. That would have been okay with me–if it had worked. The first time out of the box, it died while in use. I thought it was the travel hairdryer I’d bought. My daughter had a very inexpensive simple plug-in converter and she used the hairdryer without difficulty. We tested further and concluded it was this expensive and heavy converter that was the problem–and I had to haul it throughout the rest of the trip to bring it back to the U. S. to return. Amazon was great about the return. I wish the converter had been half as great as Amazon’s customer service. Forget this item; it’s not worth it.

I bought this product for a two-month stay in Europe last summer. It worked well for about two weeks, but then, it would only work if I held the plug in the converter at a certain angle. After about 4 weeks, it started sparking whenever I plugged things into it, and that was the end of that.

To be fair though, I did abuse it somewhat. It specifically says on the box not to use it with items that heat up (such a blow dryers, irons, toasters, etc. ), and I admit that I used it to plug in my straightening iron.

If you need it for heated items and plan on using it for a while, I would suggest you get something else. Actually, even if you’re not heating anything up, I still suggest you get something else. My suggestion: go to Brookstone.

This is a very substantial converter, meaning when we received it we were surprised how heavy it was. (It weighs 2lbs. ) My daughter took it to Spain and it worked great for her to charge her camera and phone. But one of the girls on her trip borrowed it for her hairdryer and it blew! I’m not sure if the voltage on her hair dryer could have been turned down??? Anyways if you just need it for phone or camera it’s great.
