ELM ROAD DRIVE IN THEATER, Warren Ohio
Thank you again for your kind comments. Part of the fun, indeed, the excitement of our Outdoor Moovies road trips is the research that goes into planning a new route to explore. Remember, we’re not just looking for existing, open drive ins…we’re also in search of abandoned sites, remnants of what once was, or, drive ins that have found a new use. In this case, the Youngstown / Warren Ohion area, we were told that nothing remains of the WESTSIDE, SKI-HI, NORTHSIDE, SOUTHSIDE, and SUPER 45th drive in theaters. Once in a while we get bogus information. If you are familiar with the area, please use the COMMENT feature to let us know if any screens, marquees, ticket booths, or snack bars remain. Apparently, Youngstown is void of any drive in theater remnants. Let us know if we are wrong. As for Warren, we hit the jackpot and were able to document two open, beautiful drive ins. The ELM ROAD is still owned by the same family that built it back in 1950. Be sure to check out the marquee, one of our favorites. This was a two unit shoot…Phil taped the ELM ROAD segment…complete with an interview with the owner…meanwhile…across town, I was taping at the beautiful SKYWAY. The SKYWAY Drive In is a bit harder to locate, but, well worth the effort. Again, those that say the drive in theater is a thing of the past just don’t get it. It all depends on where you live.
