  • This book in very light on detail, insight and serious scholarship, it is poorly written and really needed a good editor to stop the soft casual dribble from going any further. The reflective spititual journey at the heat of yoga practice is sadly given a gloss that is hollow and totally unsatisfactory. There are some excellent yoga theory texts out there and she ever references some of them but this attempt falls very short of the mark and should have been stopped by the publisher or someone because it reads like a load of undisciplined hippy dribble which makes me wounder about the rest of Sadie’s output, which I had previously enjoyed.

I often visit the library and borrow about seven books from the new book section. Often I only spend a few seconds reading a book, before I check it out. If I really like a book I may purchase it for my library. Sometimes the books I borrow are a real a disappointed, other times I am pleasantly surprised.

I like self help books, because occasionally I can get a new perspective on how to improve my life. A lot of self help books are inane this book unfortunately falls into that category. It is shallow self-centered drivel of the new age kind.

In chapter one the author states, “Tool #1: You
There are certain things and people you don’t need, now or ever, to be successful and happy on your life’s road trip. What and who they are may surprise you: Your loving husband, wife. . . Support groups. . . Your concerned Mother, Your children, Your best friend, Basically, anyone besides YOU. ”

Therefore, if you have kids you will need to hire a babysitter and explain to them that you just need “your space. ”

Another way the whole book can be summarized is by chapter 5,” the tunnel of love, How to have a lifelong love affair with yourself. ” The author, Sadie Nardini, suggests that you take yourself on a date. I am surprised the author did not suggest self-kissing, although if she did I miss that.

This book epitomes what is wrong with our society, in that we focus, to much on our own desires, and put ourselves at the center of the universe. Needless to say I won’t be purchasing this book. I would be to embarrassed to have this book in my library.

For spiritual advice I would suggest, Emanuel Swedenborg, who simply suggests that we be useful to others. Swedenborg’s books are proudly displayed in my library.

I admit I’m only on p. 38 in the middle of chapter one but so far
there is nothing new here and the writing is just okay. I don’t
expect great writing from self-help books, but tell me something
new or frame it in a new way. The only thing slightly different
is the packaging-the road trip metaphor, which gets on my nerves.

This summer I was feeling a little down – just lost my job of 14 years due to corporate downsizing – and realized that I could no longer separate who I was from what I did. I went on a previously planned beach vacation and took Sadie Nardini’s new book “Road Trip Guide to the Soul” with me. WOW – this is a must read book with something for everyone! It’s written in Sadie’s trademark style – authentic, hip and fun. . . . . and filled with deep wisdom and insight into our journey through this life. Sadie is an amazing yoga teacher and coach, her classes light a fire in everyone who takes them. The “Road Trip” energized me, elevated me and filled me with a newfound energy, courage and committment to make the most of my life journey on this planet. Thanks to Sadie I realize that yes, I can be “my own boyfriend”! – that is, I don’t need to depend on anyone or anything, I have everything I need inside me. So check back with me in a few months to see where my newfound sense of self and purpose has taken me! For now, I can authentically say that the most important thing I did this summer was take a “road trip” with Sadie Nardini. You can too!
    Thank you,
    Jeanne

Sadie rocks!. . . . . . this book is chock full of life wisdom, and Sadie will set you straight about the laws of the universe and manifestation. Sadie’s openness about her own journey and struggles towards self actualization and a life lived with purpose and intention are an inspiration for us all. This book is for anyone looking to cut to the chase, stop wasting time with things that don’t matter in ‘the big picture’ and keep moving towards the light and all the beautiful things in life that does. She takes the teachings and concepts of yoga and puts in a metaphorical road trip journey that anyone would like to right shotgun on!
