It is a largely autobiographical work that was based on the spontaneous road trips of Kerouac and his friends across mid-century America. It is often considered a defining work of the postwar Beat Generation that was inspired by jazz, poetry, and drug experiences. Produced by Francis Ford Coppola, Gus van Sant In preparation for the film, Salles traveled the United States, tracing Kerouac’s journey and filming a documentary on the search for On the Road.Jose Rivera has adapted the book into a screenplay. Coppola’s American Zoetrope is producing the film Amy Adams will play Jane, “the emotionally damaged junkie mother of two children and the wife of Old Bull Lee.” Vigo Mortensen is going to play Lee.
